History of Livingston
Livingston, NJ, nestled in the heart of Essex
County, became a township in 1813 and was named in honor of New
Jersey’s first governor, William Livingston. For a fun tour
highlighting Livingston’s history, visit the Force Homestead
Museum on the second Sunday of each month for a guided tour!

Each year, through the Kiwanis Club of Livingston, a carnival is organized to capture the inner child in everyone! Through Livingston’s own Sunrise Rotary, a food tasting is coordinated to benefit Saint Barnabas Hospital’s Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, which is ranked amongst the top NICU’s in the entire country.
The shopping and dining available in Livingston is endless! With the addition of the new Town Center, the Livingston Mall is in competition for shoppers’ affection. The town center not only offers upscale shopping at it’s best, but also sit down dining. Dining in Livingston is one of the best choices to make!

Livingston Schools
Livingston is divided into six elementary
schools, sixth grade Heritage Middle School, seventh and eighth
grade Mount Pleasant Middle School, and Livingston High School,
centrally located within walking distance of the Livingston town
library. The New Jersey School Report Card narrative on
Livingston Township highlights that Livingston students “mean
SAT scores are significantly above average,” and continues to
say that Livingston students, “reach the highest levels of
achievement in AP courses.”
